Read MoreVision Statements For Personal or Company: You Can Simply, Powerfully Form In <25 Words!
Don't believe that building a Vision Statement for your life or your company is a) difficult, b) time-consuming, c) never meaningful or relevant -- it can be! Just don't leave it up to the uninspired!
I have used this with literally 1000's of people. It has built important personal purpose statements and robust, energy-transmitting corporate ones. Here is how you do it! And it takes 30-60 minutes, not half a day or 6 months! That's for an individual or a company!
Overview Vision Statement Structure
Look at your personal or company Vision statement as having 3 parts of 8 words each, totaling about 24 words:
- What You (or co.) Are Based Upon -- your foundational/governing values section.
- Who/What You Are and Do -- your unique identification section.
- Resulting In/Fulfillment -- your aspired outcome/legacy section.
Step-By-Step Process:
1. First off, head 3 columns on a blank sheet titled:
- Column 1: "Based Upon" Key Words & Phrases
- Column 2: "I Am (or We Are)/I Do/Provide" Words & Phrases"
- Column 3: "Resulting In What/For Whom" Phrases
2. Second, in a relaxed, stream-of-consciousness (not a tight final draft; just breathe!) manner, list out key values, words, phrases, key adjectives and nouns, key adverbs and verbs, that resonate with you concerning:
- Column 1: Where am I/are we coming from? What is my/our foundation, fundamental beliefs, key governing principles, burning drivers, critical galvanizers at work in you/your company? What words capture what motivates me/us?
- Column 2: Who am I/are we? What am I doing/What are we providing/delivering? What makes me distinct, unique? What is the essence of my being, living, doing. What am I here to be or do that captures the core of my/our identity?
- Column 3: What is my life/our co. for? Who or what am I serving? Who do I/we wish to benefit, how? What are the outcomes? What is my/our aspired to legacy/life purpose/result when it is all done?
3. Now review each column one at a time. Circle the 5 to 10 words that are your favorites in each section. Now you are starting to whittle down your lists to the very most important words and phrases!
4. Next, at the bottom of each column on your page or at the top of a new page, write down a 6 to 10 word succinct, bouillon-cube summary of the crystallized essence from your very favorite words and phrases in each column.
5. Now, craft these 3 phrases together. Put them in any order you wish that sounds right. Be as precise as you can. Remember, you are aiming to articulate the essence, the sense, the big picture Vision of who you are, where you are coming from, and how and to whom you want it to turn out. This is only a draft. You can continue to tinker with it. Keep it close to you. It defines the very substance of who you are and where you are going!
Examples:
I just ask your forbearance, that, in giving these examples, you look beyond their generic or particular nature. They just are to be helpful illustrating how it comes together. The parentheses are not part of the statement, but signal what of the 3 8-word sections from above they are here:
1. Personal Vision Statement Example:
(Based upon) Because of a passionate desire to serve others, (I am/do) I spend my life speaking and writing (Resulting in) to uplift every soul I touch with inspiration. [23 words]
2. Work Vision Statement Example:
